Network Engineer Silver - ICMPv6 and Neighbor Discovery

ICMPv6 is a companion protocol to IPv6, in the same way that ICMPv4 is a companion protocol to IPv4. It doesn't carry data itself, like IPv6 does. It provides error messages and diagnostic messages. It also is used to perform housekeeping chores associated with IPv6, such as Address Resolution (mapping IPv6 addresses onto Link Layer addresses), Router Discovery, Stateless Address Autoconfiguration (SLAAC) and Duplicate Address Detection (DAD). It has a new mechanism not found in IPv4 called Neighbor Unreachability Detection (NUD).
